What is the Information Channel
The information Channel (IC) from BIW Technologies is a web-based application that allows true project collaboration. The key functions and attributes are as follows:
- Completely Web Based (Can be accessed by any web enabled computer even via modem)
- Uses drawing web format (DWF/SVF/PLT/PDF) files for fast downloading and printing. The system has its own built-in viewer so users do not need to have additional software to view files.
- All documents have a specific issue sheet clearly showing who the document has been issued to and who has viewed the document.
- Allows concurrent commenting using a text based comment box or by redlining on the drawing.
- Provides all users with a personalised headlines page showing which documents the user has been issued with and which documents have been issued but not viewed or actioned.
- Has many inbuilt forms and processes for RFI's, Messaging, Change Requests, Architect's instructions etc.
- Categorises documents according to work package allowing users to list all documents relating to any specific package regardless of who produced the document.
- Database driven format allows users to search the database of documents according to predefined categories. e.g. by status, by discipline, by date of issue, by owner etc.
- Provides users with access to the native CAD file should this be required.
- For further information refer to www.biwtech.com
Requirements for using the Information Channel
The information Channel can be accessed from any web-enabled computer. The web address used for your project will be advised when your user ID and Password is issued or when you receive the project procedures.
Casual users are able to access the system using a 56Kb modem connection. All other users should consider an ISDN or ADSL @ 128Kb as a minimum). Users should also have necessary printing and plotting facilities for drawings issued to the system. Approved versions of browser applications are IE 5, 6
To issue drawings you will need to create one of the following file types DWF, PDF, PLT or SVF. In general PDF is now the preferred format but the formats may vary from project to project.
What happens after the application form is received:
- Mace will check to see if your company exists on the IC system. If so we will add the company to the project. If not we will send the form to the BIW to have the new company created in the master database.
- Mace will check to see if the Company Administrator (CA) on the form is already on the system. If so we will add the user to the project and assign the rights. If not we will send the form to the BIW to have the CA added to the system. We will then add the user to the project and assign the rights.
- If your Administrator (CA) has not received login information from the BIW within 48 hours of submitting the form please contact Crawford Patterson @ Mace Ltd.
- Training will be arranged as described below:
Design Team Training
In general Mace will provide training for the design team at our Head Office in Camden (London) or in some cases at the design teams own office.
